While church is a place to belong and to be accepted, typically no one really wants to stand out too much. It can be somewhat embarrassing and uncomfortable to be called out in a public arena, sometimes even more so at church, especially if you are new. Thankfully, your church members can have peace of mind knowing there are alternative ways of communication that don’t require public attention.

For example, a discreet, wireless paging system is an easy way to non-intrusively get someone’s attention or let them know they are needed elsewhere. We have found this to be really useful at our church with the guys tasked with handling the technological and musical aspects of the service. It used to be that if there was a tech issue in the middle of the service, our pastor would have to make this sort of odd and out of place announcement that so-and-so was needed in the sound booth. In order to prevent this, we requested our helping hands to be right nearby. This of course meant they couldn’t worship with their families because we needed them waiting right next to the sound booth or by the projector, just in case. This was a loss for these families and we knew something needed to be done about it. So, we instituted church pagers, which enable our helping hands to worship in the audience right beside their beloved families, and if need be, we can discreetly page them out to a place of need. This has turned out to be a much less intrusive and less distracting way of communicating with our members in worship.

While we originally got the pager system for this one specific need, we have found countless opportunities to also use them elsewhere. For example, we use them for our weekend retreats to communicate with volunteers and staff, we use them in our youth ministry, we use them with our parking crew, we use them in our small group studies – we pretty much use them everywhere. This wireless paging system has changed the way we operate as a church, now if we could just keep the coffee full.

As a parent to four young children, I know what it’s like to be surrounded by chaos, pretty much all the time. My favorite is the endlessly mounting dirty laundry pile, which is made especially worse by the fact that two of my children are in sports (which means there are sports uniforms always needing washing), and the other two change outfits more times in a day than a mother can count. So, when my husband suggested we take the children with us to church this past weekend, I was a bit overwhelmed.

My children are fairly rambunctious and we had been alternating weeks with one of us staying home with the children and one going to church. Now I realize we are doing our children a disservice by not exposing them to the church community, but I just figured the nursery staff would be grateful to not have my four energy-busting children under their wings. I may have been wrong.

With my husband’s encouragement, the entire family piled into the van and off to church we headed. I was a bit nervous. When we got to the nursery, a very nice young lady handed me a church paging device and said the staff would page me if they had any problems with my children. I chuckled internally and figured I’d be receiving a message from the pager system before the service even started – heck, before even reaching a seat.

I kissed each one of my “lively” children on the head and said a little prayer hoping they wouldn’t embarrass us as parents. My husband and I picked a place to sit together, which remember was something we never got to do. This was actually pretty nice. I was still clutching the church nursery pager in my hand, just waiting for it to buzz. My husband could see that I was staring at the pager like waiting for a pot of water to boil. He told me to relax and gently took the alpha pager from my grasp.

An hour later, still no pager going off. I was a bit dumb-founded and wondered if maybe the battery was dead. The church service ended and we headed back to the nursery to pick up the children. I handed the church nursery pager back to the young lady and suggested she check the battery – I was just certain that the kids would have gotten out of hand and we’d be paged to come get them. She assured me that the battery was fine, and that the kids were more than fine. In fact, they were well-behaved angels – something I never thought I’d hear!

Many churches offer programs geared specifically for children. Most often these children’s ministry programs concurrently occur during the traditional adult services. This gives parents the opportunity to attend church while ensuring that their children’s physical and spiritual needs are also being met. Churches often face the challenge of coordinating and communicating between church nursery staff and parents. Many churches have found it to be both helpful and beneficial to utilize silent paging systems where parents are given a pager at the time they drop off their children. Church nursery staff is then able to reach parents in a discreet manner if the need arises. JTECH’s ParentPass™ and QuikCall™ pagers are available with not only a strong vibrating feature but also with visual light flashing, which can be very useful for alerting a parent during musical worship when the conditions in the sanctuary may be dim and loud.

Also, with more and more churches offering multiple Sunday services, sometimes up to four in a day, it’s imperative that these pagers not take too long to recharge. JTECH pagers are equipped with a rapid-charging technology that enables them to top up in about 30-minutes. Also, with space often being somewhat limited, it’s important to note that JTECH’s charging and docking cradle is compact, taking up a minimal amount of space. For parents’ convenience, JTECH pagers are light and comfortable to hold and are also available with a belt clip for easy toting either at the waist or secured to a purse. According to parents, it’s comforting to know that if church nursery staff needs to quickly reach them that they have the tools to do so. This added boost of confidence increases the likelihood that parents will return to church with their children on a week after week basis. Regularity in church attendance is essential for continued spiritual growth as well as for the sustainability of a church body.

Jobs in early childcare can be very challenging and difficult on many different levels. This industry sector has a relatively high rate of turnover and a pervasive amount of burnout. Experts are not able to attribute this phenomenon to a single reason, but rather have found that a number of factors contribute to nursery care employee turnover. Probably the number one reason is that children can simply be emotionally and physically exhausting. One approach to mitigating this problem is to support more of a team mentality amongst staff members. To encourage better communication and camaraderie between teachers, administrators, staff, and volunteers, some organizations have introduced wireless paging systems into their framework. For example, JTECH’s StaffComm™ and its’ simple and immediate wireless communication is a great way to foster open communication between teachers. Let’s face it, when the ratio of children to adults is so drastically skewed, working in teams is an incredibly smart approach to managing the chaos.

Children have incredibly high levels of energy, excitement, and vigor, which can be overwhelming to a care giver with the responsibility of maintaining order over the multitude. The StaffComm micro-transmitter and its accompanying pagers equips staff members with the tools needed to respond more efficiently to the children’s needs and to the needs of fellow staff members. Whether to alert someone for assistance with a spill or cleanup, or to page someone for medical or security assistance, StaffComm brings your valuable employees together. One of the most prominent roots of burnout is the feeling of operating or managing a task all alone. Many times this feeling is overwhelming and stressful. StaffComm will remind your nursery staff that they are never alone, that a colleague is always only a page away, and that a team of professionals is there to support them. At a reasonable cost, StaffComm can bring peace of mind and efficiency to a situation typically devoid of both.

There are few things as challenging for newer parents as leaving your child at the nursery for the very first time. And even when it’s not the very first time, there can still be some apprehension surrounding how the child will acclimate to the environment. What if a child will just not stop crying? One who has been around children knows that when one child starts crying, it can be a free-for-all, where pretty soon all the children are crying. Thankfully, with the advent of silent parent pagers such as those by JTECH, nursery staff has the ability to better maintain a calm nursery environment by paging back parents whose children are inconsolable. JTECH’s ParentPass™ pagers are rechargeable, durable, and simple to use. ParentPass pagers are especially useful in a nursery setting where there are children coming in and out at different times of the day because they recharge in just 2 -3 hours. Not to mention, because they are so easy to operate, staff does not have to worry about complicating the check-in or check-out process – it really is as simple as handing the parent a pager.

With more and more businesses and organizations looking for ways to distinguish themselves, nurseries have popped up everywhere. It can be a little nerve-wracking leaving your child at a new nursery, but with ParentPass pagers, parents can rest easy knowing staff is so connected. Childcare is often a large expense incurred by families with children, specifically young children, thereby making it all the more important that the value to parents is maximized. And with the continued financial stain being felt by families all over the nation, people are looking for ways to further reduce expenses. Nurseries equipped with ParentPass pagers are setting themselves apart from the others, which reemphasizes the importance and high quality of the service they provide.

It’s a mistake to think that because your church is not a “mega-church” that you don’t need or cannot afford a silent paging system for your nursery. JTECH offers a variety of cost-effective nursery solutions designed to improve your ability to care for your congregants. JTECH’s ParentPass™ pagers are simple to operate and hassle-free for both parents and staff. Because these pagers are silent and discreet, you don’t have to worry about disrupting other members of the congregation. The parent that is needed can be quickly and privately summoned back to the nursery to handle whatever situation has risen. Many times the parent is able to go to the nursery, console the child, answer a staff member’s question or tend to another need, and quickly return to the church service.

JTECH’s ParentPass pagers are also very helpful during other times of the week and for other church activities. For example, the increased emphasis on Bible studies and small group activities has opened up another opportunity for the church to bring people together. In these instances, attendance is often higher when childcare is made available in connection with the study or other event. ParentPass church pagers are great for Bible studies due to their discreet nature. In that instance, mom or dad can quietly remove him or herself without having to disrupt the group discussion or the reading of a Bible passage. Even potential pager loss is mitigated by the out-of-range feature, alerting the carrier that they have traveled too far away from the main unit or reminding them that they have a pager in their possession, providing exceptional value. ParentPass pagers are an all-around solution regardless of church size or how many activities you host each week.

Staff attentiveness is best ranked on a continuum scale – from a complete lack of awareness about the needs of the nursery children, to almost preemptively meeting their needs before issues even arise. However, there is a huge range in the middle section where significant improvements in attentiveness can be made by utilizing some handy tools of the trade. For example, JTECH’s SmartAlert® messaging system with StaffComm™ push button paging is a simple way to unify staff members in order to better meet the needs of the nursery children. StaffComm allows you to deliver fast, detailed and actionable information to other staff members as needed.

Unpredictable situations are sure to arise in a children’s nursery – that’s a given. What isn’t a given is the manner in which staff is able to respond to such unpredictable needs. StaffComm push button transmitters come in one and four button models, providing an ideal way to communicate with other teachers or childcare providers within the building or elsewhere on the premises that assistance is needed in a specific classroom or other location. It’s also quite common for spills and messes to occur when working with children, so StaffComm is great for keeping in contact with maintenance and service personnel too. Likewise, it’s also imperative to be able to reach the Director in the event there is an emergency or a parent concern. The StaffComm system is quiet and discreet, making it appropriate for all settings. While it’s true that our society as a whole is becoming less and less patient, this has always been the case with children. Instant communication between staff members alleviates the stress that arises when waiting for an action or an answer. StaffComm is not just for emergencies, it can be a great avenue for even the simplest messages, and this often provides the greatest benefit.

No two churches are the same, so logically no two security plans are going to be identical either. What is the same though are the “tools of the trade.” JTECH’s two-way radio solutions are functional in churches of any size requiring voice communications. Working in partnership with Motorola®, JTECH is committed to providing quality and functional paging and two-way voice communication devices to churches all across America. While some churches may believe that their congregation or operating grounds are either too large or too small to be serviced by a JTECH communication system, this is simply not the case. Because JTECH offers both the CLS series and the RDX series of radios, property size is rarely a hindrance. For example, smaller churches would benefit most from the CLS series of radios. These radios are compact, lightweight and less expensive, but still offer a full watt of power, up to four channels of operation, additional privacy codes, a lithium ion battery with 12 hours of power between charges, and a hands-free audio jack. CLS radios are ideal for use in churches under 200,000 square feet.

For larger churches, the RDX series is often more suited to meet these needs. This robust line of radios works well in churches up to 350,000 square feet. More importantly, you don’t have to trade features for more range. RDX radios offer up to five watts of power with up to sixteen channels of operation, privacy codes, an extended battery life of 26 hours of use between charges, and superior audio quality ideal for accessory headset use. With a rugged design as indicated its’ IP54 rating against dust and water and a Mil (Military) Spec, these radios will get the job done. Church security and safety is not something that should be taken lightly, and JTECH is serious about the quality and durability of these radio systems.

Security in the nursery cannot be emphasized enough. It is one of those things that can go unnoticed for some time, but when an emergency ensues, you will be so thankful you were prepared. JTECH is committed to providing the highest quality Motorola two-way radios for use in nurseries and other applications. JTECH offers the popular Motorola CLS Series and the more powerful RDX Series radios for two-way voice communications. The Motorola CLS series radios are Compact, Light and Simple (and affordable!) CLS is ideal in buildings up to 15 floors and 200,000 square feet. For larger facilities, the Motorola RDX series provides excellent coverage in buildings up to 30 floors and 350,000 square feet. Another great benefit of the RDX series is the 26 hours of extended battery life. Very popular for both series are the complete line of radio headsets, which allow for hands-free operation and more discreet communication.

When emergency situations arise, staff needs to be able to communicate. Adequate communication could be the difference between having a little hang-up and having a disaster. When the health and wellbeing of children are involved, excellent communications are paramount. Bringing JTECH two-way radio communication into your nursery will drastically increase your preparedness for whatever situation may arise. With up to sixteen channels of operation plus a host of privacy codes, you don’t have to worry about interference with a nearby business. Some nurseries are still operating under the assumption that they are not at risk for a security breech. However, this just isn’t the case. Back in the late 90s, large scale school violence shocked the nation and toady we really have to be ready for anything. Proper due diligence requires this of us as parents, school administrators, nursery providers and caring adults. Preparedness and knowledge are the precursors to protecting our dear youth.

Sometimes a little simplicity goes a long way. Such is especially the case in an environment that otherwise has the potential to be quite chaotic. For example, nurseries are full of lively and sometimes (often!) rambunctious children. The last thing that caregivers need is additional stress from the very tools that are intended to help. JTECH’s ParentPass™ pagers are easy to use for both parents and staff. According to a study conducted by the American Psychological Association, over three-quarters of Americans experience symptoms of stress in any given month. Symptoms range from physical ailments to psychological disturbances. The last thing people need is more stress in their life.

The simplicity and ease of use of JTECH’s nursery paging systems is a welcome respite from the sometimes overwhelming technology encountered today. While money and work were given as the leading causes of stress in people’s lives, volunteers can experience stress without technically being “at work” and without the direct involvement of money. If your nursery is staffed by volunteers, their well-being is also likely to be a significant concern. JTECH pagers are great because they don’t require a host of training before use. The technology is literally “plug & play”, making your volunteer staff instant experts. This is especially helpful when volunteer staff is rotating, short-term, or constantly changing. ParentPass pagers’ ease of use and functionality will make the rest of the nursery operate more smoothly. In addition, the parent on the other end of that pager is completely accessible without any complicated new technology.
